Do Our Earth Day To-Do List
 |
At home:
1. Make high fuel efficiency a major factor the next time you buy or lease a car.
2. Figure out if one day a week you can car-pool or take public transit.
3. Buy local produce at a local farmer’s market or buy direct from a local farm.
4. Conduct a home energy audit. Go to hes.lbl.gov on the Web to get started.
Around your town:
5. Ask your town council to conduct an energy audit of all municipal buildings and upgrade to the most energy efficient technologies.
6. Ask your town council to invest in wind and solar power as part of their energy use.
7. Ask your town council to promote local solar and wind power through a model town ordinance crafted by the Board of Public Utilities.
In New Jersey:
8. Call Gov. Jon Corzine at 609-292-6000 to tell him to fix his energy plan by putting more focus on conservation and clean energy.
In Washington, D.C.:
9. Look for a global warming stance by the Presidential candidates that endorse 15% to 20% reductions by 2020 and 80% reductions by 2050.
10. Call Sen. Bob Menendez and Sen. Frank Lautenberg at 202-224-3121 and urge them to strengthen the Lieberman-Warner global warming bill.

As Earth Day festivities peak this weekend, we want to
make sure everybody is involved, from our homes to town halls to the State
House and the White House.
Some are easy, like personally telling Gov. Corzine to
strengthen his energy plan. Other are harder, like conducting a home energy
audit. Regardless, we would love to hear what you’ve done already, what you
plan to do, and ultimately what you did.
Tell us how you’re doing on the Earth Day to-do list below.
We’ll post the most interesting stories of to-do list
successes a month from now on our website. Good luck on pitching in and
helping to lick global warming.
